Oscar “Buddy” Abernathy, 78, of Texarkana died Tuesday, January 4th, 2005 at Yellow Creek Hunting Club Blind 35 with his best friend, “Baby” by his side.
He was born October 2, 1926 in Texarkana, Texas and had been a lifetime resident of Texarkana. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. His proudest accomplishment was the starting of Abernathy Company with his two sons, Ray and
Ric. One of his pleasures was the loyalty and respect he received from all of his co-workers. He attended of the University of Arkansas and was a member and Alumni of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Buddy was a Past President of the Texarkana Housing Authority, Board of Texarkana Country Club, and Yellow Creek Hunting Club.
He was survived by Pat, his wife of 53 years; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Ray Abernathy and Ric and Donna Abernathy; four grandsons: Todd Abernathy, Phillip Abernathy, Ric Abernathy II, and Chris Brewer; a great granddaughter: Carlie Abernathy and her mother, Erika Abernathy; Two sisters and a brother-in-law: Margaret Harrell and Nel and Dave Lorenz; a number of nieces and nephews, Bill and LoAnne Harrell, David Lorenz, Jill Lorenz, Will Harrell; and countless friends.
Funeral Services were held 10:00 AM Friday in the Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel at the Texarkana Funeral Home with Dr. Herbert Wren officiated. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
